Advisory Support Services

Thanks to the “knowledge for Youth employment on Web-based” project, free Advisory Support Service  is provided to foster entrepreneurial skills among African youths. This  Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and CORAF/WECARD Project is also sponsored by World Bank (WB) via WAAPP, i.e. the West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The technologies generated by the National Centres of Specialisation (NCoS) within the framework of the WAAPP, coordinated by CORAF/WECARD at the regional level and implemented across the countries, have been used to produce 15 films in French and 15 in English to promote youth employment. Our“Online business development one-stop shop” is readily available to help tap into the knowledge gained on self-employment opportunities and help foster self-entrepreneurship.

In addition to vetting young internet users’ entrepreneurial drive and introducing them to entrepreneurship, this service also seeks to instil in them the desire to dare ... to START UP AS ENTREPRENEURS, by choosing any of the many business opportunity-laden technologies seen in the videos..

IDB so offers the opportunity to WAAPP to contribute to increasing its visibility efforts in enhancing economic and social development, through adressing issues such as youth Employment and Weath creation.

The Project

The Islamic Development Bank (BID) has initiated the "Knowledge for Youth Employment on web-base " project, jointly with CORAF/WECARD for sharing, disseminating and using the outputs of the scientific work towards creating new jobs, through videos and Advisory Service.

The implementation of the project has started with also the financial support of the World Bank through the West African Agricultural Productivity Programme (WAAPP/PPAAO). This programme has been initiated by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) with World Bank (WB) support, in a bid to support regional Agricultural cooperation in Africa, with the the establishment of National Centres of Specialisation in 9 West African countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Cote d’Ivoire.

Since the inception of the programme in 2008, the NCoS have developed proven agricultural technologies that can benefit young people in the West and Central Africa sub-region, by unlocking business opportunities and facilitating the creation of agricultural businesses. Against this background, CORAF/WECARD has benefited from the support of IDB to produce videos featuring the technologies developed. The contribution of the WAAPP consists in a large-scale promotion of the said technologies via a web-based platform in order to make them available to young people in the ultimate goal of helping them create enterprises in agri-business sector. To this end, advisory support services are needed to help young people to tap into the information and knowledge garnered from the films on technologies in order to create employment opportunities by the scientific resource centers, on minimal costs.

The general objective is to contribute to the alleviating unemployment in the member countries, through providing data, information, and knowledge for job creation by the scientific work for creating new jobs. The specific objective of this project is to promote the use of scientific research results as a new found source of knowledge-based jobs, especially for the educated youths.

Furthermore, the project put an emphasis on gender and feminine leadership for business development also integrated as an employment generator for linking youths to the market, for a greater social and economic impact.
